Last chinese class, something cool happened. Liu Mandarin Chinese for teacher was reading something to us, and we were supposed to listen and just try to understand. I found if I relaxed into it, I could actually understand without my mind scrambling to follow. As I listened, the image of the scene just appeared in my head.
Also, this made me realize that when listening to English, I tend not to visualize as much. I think my familiarity with English lets me interact with it symbolically, but with Chinese I visualize isntead.
Then again, with a lot of Chinese, I also don't visualize.
