Archery lesson plans
Before campers arrive
- Put up targets
- Check yellow line
- Clear arrows
- Place bows — one for each targets sic
When campers arrive
- Line 'em up — don't let them touch bows
- Demonstration & safety
- Holding a bow
- Locking an arrow
- Shooting
- Retrieving
- Now give 'em arrows — 5 per line/person
- Shoot shoot shoot
- Cleanup — retrieve arrows
Notes
- I put the armguard demonstration after the shooting demo to motivate its usage. I'm not decided on if it should go before or after.
- Likewise, I'm not 100% on when to give the campers armguards
- Make sure to stress (and verify) that the campers are standing to the side of the arrow when pulling it out.
- Make sure that campers are never accross sic the yellow line unless retrieving
- If you prefer, you could hold off on bow distribution until after the demonstration
- Arrows should be held near the tip, pointing down
- shout "stop" if somebody crosses the line at a wrong time
- load an arrow around, not over
- Depending on age, you may want to grrab the arrows after retreival sic to give to the next group
